The day that I get my degree in Electronics Engineering

Maybe this day probably will be one of the most important days in my life, because this was the day that I finished my studies in Electronics Engineering in the Technological Institute of Costa Rica.
I had to do a presentation of the project that I delivered at Intel during six months. I had to explain my project to three great professors from the ITCR, (two of them actually have a PhD in Electronics Engineering). And after to do the presentation, my project was graded with a 100!!! and also they were so proud of my project and they congratulated me a lot.
For me, this experience was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I have ever had. Now,  I´m waiting for the graduation ceremony that will be in February 2011.

Urban Legend: Copito!

This history happened to my mother and my uncle like 25 years ago. One night, while my mother and my uncle were walking to their home after go the high school, when they began to cross a bridge, my mother saw a lovely dog in the middle of this bridge and she said "what a cute dog", but my uncle immediately said "it isn´t a good dog, it is Copito, an evil dog". Then, they were so scared of the dog and also they couldn´t cross the bridge  because of the dog. My uncle threw some stones to the dog, but Copito started to grow and grow! after some long minutes of this situation, Copito ran away and they ran to their home.
For me this history is an urban legend but this happened to my mother, so sometimes I think that could be true, but I´m not sure of that.

In this link I found more information about Copito and other urban legends.

TV show about crime!

I really like to watch a crime TV show called Without a trace. I don't have any particular episode in special to talk about, I just like the TV show in general. This is about people that disappear and some specialists investigate about how they could be find the victim. They look for any hint that can be useful to solve the crime. For me is very interesting how the investigators handle with the fact of no to have any hint at the beginning of the investigation.

Dead´s Day

Catrinas 2.jpg
I read an article about the Dead´s Day that is celebrated every year in Mexico. This celebration is in the same day of the catholic celebration, All Saint´s Day, in November 2nd.

At the beginning, this was a festival that was commemorated in the ninth  month of the Mexican calendar. These parties were directed by a goddess called  Mictecacíhuatl known as "The Lady of the dead".

Mexicans have a lot of rituals and symbolisms around of this day, to venerate it, honor it and also to scary about it.

I think that this celebration is very interesting but I prefer to celebrate All Saint´s Day because its more important and more respectful for relatives that have died.

Commenting about English Course

I think this course was very interactive, with a lot of conversation exercises and practice about having a conversation. Also, I like the idea of to do a blog and post entries about English topics, this is a good way to improve writing.  These English courses are good opportunities to be a good time learning and improve English skills.
However, we did n ´t   use the book pretty much, so I think that could be a good idea to use more the workbook in classes  or use it like small homework to practice more, and take advantage of this resource.

Writing a guidebook entry - Puerto Viejo, Limon

Puerto Viejo is one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Rica. Located at the south Caribbean coast, in Limon; this region has a unique mix between beach, natural resources and Caribbean culture. Also, Cahuita and Gandoca Manzanillo are other of the beautiful places near to Puerto Viejo.

This region is very famous because of its National Parks like Cahuita and Gandoca Manzanillo Reserve. They are very special because of their nature.
In Puerto Viejo, the food is very delicious, where you can find a lot of caribbean dishes like "rice and beans", "rondon", "pati" and many other.

About transportation, from San Jose to Puerto Viejo, you can take a bus or go driving in your car by the Zurqui road or also by Turrialba. Then, in Puerto Viejo you can rent a bike to go to the nearest places like Manzanillo.

I think people is respectful and friendly with tourists, so you can visit this place and feel that you are safe.

I really recommend you this place if you like the nature, the sea and Caribbean food... Is the best place to have an special vacations!!!

There are some nice pictures:

Restaurant Comment

I really like to go to La Taberna, in San Ramon.
I visit this restaurant twice a month, at least. I usually go to this place with my boyfriend and some friends of him.
This restaurant has a very diversified menu, with snacks, main dishes, cocktails and many other things.
Also, it has in its menu sea food which I really like because this kind of food is delicious and healthy.
About the environment, is nice because you can listen very good music almost all of the times, and the waiters provide a good service to the guests. So, I recommend this restaurant, food is very good and prices are reasonable.

My Profile! (Wrote by Roberto S.)

She has lived all his life in San Ramón. At first, she lived in downtown around 10 years, then her family moved to San Isidro, her mother's hometown and actual residence place.
Gaby said that her “family is very important” for her, and she wants to help her parents, sister and brother, because now she has better opportunities.

She likes listen to music and watch movies, especially in the cinema.

When I ask what is your best decision ever? She said “To start high school in Costa Rican Scientific High School in San Ramón” and why? “Because it’s difficult to graduate from there and it’s a way to change expectations and the manner of see the life”. Also she liked the opportunity to meet interesting people like teachers and partners.

When she finished high school she had a very common problem in Costa Rica, caused by stereotypes.
She wanted to study mechanics engineering but her father didn’t agree with the idea, so she decided to change to systems engineering.
Besides that, her father didn’t like the idea of go to San José or Cartago to study, because it’s dangerous and it will require a lot of money.

Gaby studied in the TEC (Tecnológico de Costa Rica) and she worked at Intel for her graduation project , fortunately few months ago when she finished the project, she was hired.

Related with Gaby’s goals, when we talked about her job she said “I like to work at Intel. I would like to get a Mastery, get a better position in the company and to do trips.” Also “I want my own family, but in around seven years.” and finally she is saving money because she wants to go to Switzerland to visit an aunt that lives there.

She admires when people is helpful in all areas and she dislikes bigheaded people.

To conclude, I see in Gaby a person with clear ideas, smart, approachable, humble and kind. I think, if Gaby is your friend you can trust her.

Writing a personality profile!

Roberto was born in Candelaria of Abangares, in Guanacaste. He lived there for  19 years but actually he lives in San Jose. He has one brother and one sister, that live in Guanacaste with his parents.

He likes listen to music, play soccer, and motocross ("but sadly, I don't have a motorcycle!")

He studied
Enterprise Computing at UCR. He decided to study a professional career because when he was in high school he was thinking in a new way to develop himself. "I saw a cousin studying and I tough that to study at college could be interesting and something new in my life". Curiously, he realized that he really likes to work with computers.

In this moment, he is working in CCSS IT Department, but he said that this is a stressful job, so he would like to work in an enterprise like Hewlett-Packard, "because it is a way to have more possibilities to grow professionally" .

Also, some of his personal goals are:...Continue learning English because is important to go to college again and increase job opportunities....Get a Mastery in Computer Engineering....Get married in December, next year.

He said that admires people who are loyal, but he hates people who are double-faced and talk with hypocrisy.

When I was interviewing Roberto, I feel he was very confident and honest, and he brought the opportunity of to have an interesting conversation about his life.
